Kat Collins artist and web designer for artists

Hi, I’m Kat Collins.

Welcome to my creative slice of the world where bringing together the authenticity, heart, & design of your artist website and author website is what I do best.

Once upon a time. . .

I was a manager, working for multi-million dollar wineries overseeing their operations, marketing, sales, and customer experiences. It felt like a dream.

Until. . .it wasn’t.

After a few years, I was tired of the politics, the 14-hour days, working holidays and weekends, and using my creativity only within the tiny box of what I was asked.

In 2018, I took a leap of faith.

After working at a winery that closed for the season (and ultimately permanently) which left me jobless, I finally decided that my creative entrepreneurial desires could not be met by working for someone else. Being a fine artist myself for over 20 years on the side and a bit of a tech/web design geek, I knew other artists who wanted to get their art businesses off the ground.

Many artists try to DIY their sites. But being an artist doesn’t always translate into being able to design a website (amiright?). Since I know the struggle of trying to combine art and tech successfully, I decided to start a web design business to design beautiful, strategic, and easy-to-use websites for emerging artists. I’ll handle the tech while you can get back into your studio creating!

If you don’t have time for what matters, stop doing the things that don’t.

Currently . . .

I’m probably cozied up with my cats, building websites, and dreaming up new ways to help emerging artists build thriving businesses online and in person.

After my job ended with no idea of what would come next, I realized that life was about taking charge of the opportunities around me instead of waiting for them - or someone else’s permission - to happen.

Today, this philosophy energizes me as creative bursts bloom: juggling web design projects while maintaining my own art practice and volunteering with an art organization to encourage emerging artists and established artists in their work. And I love every minute of it!

I’m all about. . .

  •  I'm incredibly empathic, an INFP, and super intuitive but also logical, analytical, and can see the bigger vision of your art story. Websites are for building relationships. As a professional artist, selling your art is all about connection and relationships. I’m a big advocate of building meaningful relationships with people instead of “marketing” to them. I love being able to build a genuine connection with you, find the clarity and authenticity in your art brand message to create a website that perfectly reflects your art business’ values and unique personality. In turn, you can connect with your audience to build those relationships!

  • I’m an artist. Creativity is in my blood. Your website demands to stand out from the crowd. You’re not like everyone else so why try to be like everyone else? Your awesomeness will shine! I believe in white space, modern, clean, and inviting design. I’m not about following the latest design trends just for the sake of it. It should stand the test of time.

  • Authenticity is my core. Say what you mean and do what you say. Be real. Be human. Be respectful. Be honest. But above all, be completely YOU - in life and in business. That's how I operate and I expect the same in return. Everyone is safe and accepted here.

  • I say, “STOP THE HUSTLE!” I don’t believe in it or support it. Ask yourself…how much of your work is genuinely productive, and how much of it is an addiction to being busy? Hustle pits you against everyone else leaving no room for common goals, shared humanity, or humble giving. Instead of building the path by walking together hustle wants us all in our own individual steamrollers flattening each other in the rush to the finish line. Hustlers don’t have time for silly concepts like unity or cooperation, they are far too busy planning world domination or courting celebrity. It’s a form of addiction and a culture that the world has created. To learn more about how the hustle hurts, read this article by Jessika Hepburn.

When you know what you’re working on and why you’re working towards it, then everything that doesn’t serve that goal can take a backseat. Simone Weil, in her eloquent writings on Attention to the Real and the union of Thought and Work, believes that the art and act of paying attention and using our head, heart, and hands is both prayer and an invitation to grace. She believes that truly paying attention to another person or a cause is not only an act of compassion but ultimately rebellion. We have the power to be creative citizens who manufacture our own collective success instead of passive consumers of hustle.

If you want your website (or other services that KCD offers) to be an authentic piece of art that truly represents your business philosophy, just like that confidante who knows how to listen to what you want and help you arrive at that fulfilling outcome, Kat is the person to go to. She has that natural ability to guide you through the process in a heart-connected way. However, this is provided you are willing to also open your own heart to be part of the process.
