A FEW FUN FACTS ABOUT MYSELF

I love wine! In 2016, I completed Wine & Spirits Education Trust Level 2 with Merit and currently pursuing Level 3. I’m an avid Penn State Nittany Lions and Pittsburgh Steelers football fan (don’t hold it against me). I love to cook gourmet meals and throw fancy dinner parties. I devour political and assassin thrillers and noir novels. I have two cats named Ziggy and Benjamin. I despise lima beans and cauliflower. Ice cream is my kryptonite. I’ve broken my right-hand twice. Because of that, I’m now ambidextrous.

In addition to my wine studies, I have a Bachelor of Science in Fine Arts, with a minor in Psychology, 45 credit hours towards Master of Arts Art Therapy, including 400 internship hours. I am also a published writer (print and digital) with over 20 years of blogging experience, as well as an accomplished artist.

Understand Who I Am As a Person

During the warmer months, I enjoy traveling to Rehoboth Beach to soak up the rays or to Maine for some family time and fresh lobster. During any season, I love to travel to various wine areas for wine tasting. Although the majority of the year, you will find me behind a computer screen designing websites, writing a fiction novel or short stories, or researching various ways to improve my design knowledge. I am a passionate fine artist with a B.A. in Fine Arts which has had a huge influence on my design abilities.

Throughout the years I've worked for places that constantly demand and push their employees with little reward for difficult, time-consuming, labor-intensive, stressful work. Having been put through some bad experiences in my past, I've also had some great ones that allowed me to work with some amazing people who have played key roles in my career. I have worked very hard to get where I am today, but I'm just as passionate about where my career is leading me. The challenges that I deal with on a day-to-day basis I find meaningful and rewarding. Bottom line: I honestly love what I do.

Why I’m a Winery Website Designer

Simply put, I know wine and wineries.

Throughout my career in the wine industry, I have worked as a full-time employee at management level for three small family-owned wineries. I was responsible for every aspect of marketing - social media, email, print, and digital. I also was a contributing writer to American Winery Guide, a published wine blogger, as well as participated in wine festivals, wine dinners, wine pairings, and more. I attended a marketing Pennsylvania wines seminar by Stuart Pigott, founder of Rockstars of Wine America, in 2016.

The wineries I worked for didn’t have the large resources to pour into a website design and it showed. Their websites displayed a lack of organization, clarity, didn’t tell their brand story, weren’t user-friendly, and the design was dated. It was time to match their website to their successful business brand and bring them into the 21st Century.

I rebuilt and redesigned their websites with a modern, clean, graphic-focused design, user-friendly interface, simplified the e-commerce, and simplified the administrative back end of the site. Since I know the required shipping laws for wine, I understand how to implement e-commerce to meet state and federal laws. As a result, all three businesses saw a significant increase in website traffic and online sales and a decrease in customer complaints and questions about the website.

My path as a website designer has led me to a focus on Squarespace design. Designing websites as a side hustle for year, I have previously dealt with custom coded websites (DIY), large custom content management systems (in the corporate world), Wix, Weebly, GoDaddy, and WordPress, using various themes for over 10 years. While they all have their pluses and minuses, I gravitated toward Squarespace for a multitude of reasons: user-friendly, clean interface, extreme flexibility, robust back end system, mobile responsive, strong SEO, ability to custom code if desired but not required, quality high security, integrated e-commerce, and so much more.

I love designing winery websites and I know wineries - what resources they need to do e-commerce, how to tell their brand story, the user-experience, and how to stand out in the competitive wine industry. I know a winery needs a beautiful website but also a smart, functional website.

I love being able to work with a winery to create a vision of their brand’s story and then see that vision come to life. I also enjoy redesigning older websites that need a fresher, more modern, user-friendly design.
