Invest in Yourself. Your Future Depends on It!

Invest in yourself and your business because your future depends on it. Investing in yourself is powerful and can yield big results.

Ya know, I never got into web design to make a lot of money. It’s never been my goal. Sure, to make a livable wage, of course. I mean, I do have to eat once in a while and I like having toothpaste to brush my teeth. Oh, and my cat like being fed, too.

But it’s really, honestly, never been about the money.

Frankly, most jobs I’ve ever had has not been about the money...from being a secretary for various businesses to interning at a girl’s boot camp (for troubled kids) to managing an entire winery business to now being a freelance web designer. I’ve worked a lot of jobs, even some that people would consider “small” or should be beneath me because of my skills (all depends on perspective). All I can say is thank goodness I have an understanding spouse.

My one goal in life has always been to empower people, especially women, to be the best versions of themselves. See, no matter my position or level of leadership or monetary status, I want the people who work with me or for me to be their best. And if they need help being their best, I’m here for that, too. That’s it.

I grew up in a family that always gave to others whether it was financial, physical like food or clothing, and even a home to live in at times. I’ve always joked that it felt like our house had a revolving door with the many people who passed through needing help of varying kinds. Some stayed, some didn’ didn’t matter. We helped.

That driving empathy has never left me. It’s only deepened as I’ve gotten older. As a web designer for creative professionals, entrepreneurs, and small businesses, all I want to do is help give someone the step up they need to reach their highest heights and biggest dreams.

It’s the biggest reason I don’t charge a ton of money for web design. Sure, I could make thousands on a website if I wanted to (and there’s nothing wrong with doing that at all). It’s just not my purpose. I’ve designed sites for the big guys in the past but I prefer to be accessible to those just starting out or those who need to reach the next step on their journey.

Who couldn’t use a bit of help on their business journey?

Do you find yourself dreaming, “If only I could take that next step? That leap of faith?”

I hear you, my friend.

Do you feel overwhelmed when it comes to technology and designing a website that not only fits your vision but also actually functions?

Or how about your lack of time? It’s not simple nor quick when you tackle building a website. It can be a time-suck, for sure. I remember the days when I was first learning how to build websites. It would take me days just to figure some small thing out, or trying to pick just the right template or whatnot.

I feel your pain.

It’s real. It’s difficult. And frankly, it sucks sometimes. And a good too many of us don’t want to ask for help whether we’re too proud, too finicky, or think we can’t afford it.

“I can’t afford it,” is the biggest reason I hear from people who want a website, and who’s growing business may even depend on having an online presence. Having a website would empower your business which would, in turn, empower you.

Honestly? I get it. I really do.

Web design is not cheap. Yes, there are those you can go to who can create a website for you for less than $100. And if that’s what you want to do, then go for it. I’m not stopping you.

You can also DIY your website yourself. If you opt for that route, I’m cheering you on! Make sure you take into account how much time you will need to learn how to do it and how to make your website beautiful and functional. If you need help with it, I have a bunch of great tips on my blog, especially if you go with Squarespace.

But I want you to ask yourself some very serious questions and think really hard about it:

  • How important is this step in your business journey to you and your business?

  • How invested are you in succeeding?

  • Do you want to stay where you are or do you want to grow forward, personally and business wise?

Oh, come on. It’s just a website! It’s not a life-changing decision. It doesn’t matter that much.

I know you may think so...I mean, it is just a website. Or is it?

What are you hoping to accomplish with your website? More sales? More clients? More return on your investment? A way to connect authentically with your website visitors? To build relationships with them, to empower them to make decisions that will benefit them, and potentially you?

See? It’s all about empowerment. Empowering you and your customers to be better people and the world around you to be a better place.

While I may be talking about money to design a website, there are plenty of ways to come up with money. Borrow from someone, sell something (legal), dip into your savings or save up, and on.

What I’m really talking about is investing in yourself.

If you’re not willing to invest in yourself, why would anyone else?

Investing in yourself sends a powerful message to yourself and the world. The message is:

The value and potential that I possess, is important enough to me that I’m going to give it the energy, space and time to grow and create results.

When you’re willing to say yes, and take that leap of faith and invest in yourself, the universe will provide you with amazing rewards.

I can promise this: When you invest in yourself, a world of opportunities will open up for you. And, if you have a business where you sell your services, you must know that no one will invest in you until you invest in yourself first.

Investing in yourself emotionally, physically, spiritually and financially, will allow you to become the best version of yourself.  When you are the best version of yourself, you will be an attraction magnet to others!

Are you still on the fence about investing in yourself? What’s stopping you? What’s holding you back? Have you invested in yourself? How? What was the result? I’d love to hear from you in the comments below!
