5 Ways to Make Your Brand Stand Out Online
You’re posting on your social media. You’re writing a blog post once a month. You comment on posts in Facebook groups and share photos on Instagram, but the response is chirping crickets.
You have a website but can’t figure out why traffic is minimal and you’re lacking sales.
You provide an awesome service or product but can’t understand why no one seems interested.
You feel lost in the online noise.
You’re thinking this might be a hopeless venture and you feel like you’re ready to give up.
PLEASE DON’T! I’m here to tell you that you can succeed in the online space! There are things you can do to make yourself stand out, to make your voice heard, among all the other voices out there.
But first, why is it important to make your brand stand out online? Because as of January 2019, there are over 1.94 billion active websites. You read that right.
With over 1.94 billion active websites, it’s absolutely crucial that you learn how to stand out so that you don’t just blend in!
Because blending in = forgotten. And getting forgotten = not good for business.
So what are some things that you can do to really kick it up a notch, to take it to the next level?
Ya know, to make sure your brand really stands out from the rest?
Here are my top 5 ways to make your brand stand out online.
1) Be specific about who you are.
Standing out in a sea of competition means giving people something to remember. To do that, be specific about who you are.
Maybe you’re a website designer who only works with women entrepreneurs because you want to help women take their businesses to the next level (like me!)
Or you’re a local print shop that only uses recycled inks or papers. Or use a process that others don’t.
Or you own a tech startup that has an innovative product that could help millions. Or entertain them.
Maybe you sell your art online and the theme is unique.
Who you are in business matters. Where businesses get lost is when they’re unable to define themselves and what’s different about the way they do business. Know what’s different about you and then talk about it. A lot!
2) Use your brand voice.
One of the quickest and easiest ways to help your business stand out on social media is to be yourself. Simple, right?
Although nailing your brand voice can be quite the process, it will help you stand out from the competition and subsequently attract the right followers to your social channels.
What is brand voice? While I won’t get into the deep details here, but brand voice refers to the personality and emotion infused into a company’s communications. It encompass everything from the words and language you use, to the personality and image you marketing assets aim to invoke.
3) Tell your story.
Your story is what makes you unique because no one has the exact same story! Plus, sharing your story helps others to actually connect with you better, which is super important online. People want that type of honesty and connection so they can relate to you and your business. They want personal value behind what they’re investing in. Share your story and how it has inspired you to do what you do. Check out MY story here: About. Think about where you can infuse your own stories and experiences in your online presence.
4) Make sure your brand presence is cohesive AND consistent.
This is super important! Do all of your brand elements (like colors, fonts, your vibe, voice, logo, images, etc.) fit together to form one cohesive and clear brand presence? You need to use the exact same fonts, colors, etc. on EVERYTHING. And not only that but you also need to maintain a consistent voice, vibe, etc. You don’t want to have a goofy and light-hearted tone in one place and then a stern and serious tone in another place. This will make you look as though you have two personalities! Not to mention it’s confusing to people. They won’t understand what you’re offering or maybe even wonder if you’re the same person if nothing works together! Pick ONE branding theme and STICK WITH IT.
Repeat after me. Strong brands are consistent.
5) Audit your products and services.
This might seem like an odd one, but trust me. You should be doing this at least once or twice a year. You might have TONS of different passions and interests and be tempted to dabble in all of them but the result will most likely be something that is watered down and blah. Remember, the more focused you can be, the better. Plus, trying to appeal to everybody = appealing to NOBODY. Focus on the products and/or services that you are the MOST passionate about and work on being super strong in those areas of expertise.
There’s so much more you can do to stand out online with your authentic voice but this is a great start!
