10 Reasons Why Squarespace is a Great Choice for Creative Entrepreneurs

10 Winery Website Design must-haves for your winery website.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again (like I did in this post here) and I’m sure I will say it a million times more...in order for your business to succeed, you need a website. It’s your number one marketing tool, with social media a close second. If you want to know why I feel the way I do about your business needs a website, read my post, “Do I Need a Website For My Small Business?

I’m probably going to sound like a broken record eventually but it’s worth repeating.

As a new creative entrepreneur, it can be overwhelming, frustrating, and maybe even scary when you think about DIYing your own website - especially if you met coding once before and ran away screaming. Lucky for you, and me, there is a wonderful platform called Squarespace that makes it easy as 1...2...3 to build your website.

In this post, I want to share with you 10 reasons why Squarespace is a great choice for any creative entrepreneur...and maybe take some of the willies away from you.

Friends, Squarespace is easy peasy to use! Unlike the formidable Wordpress, there is a significantly smaller learning curve when it comes to Squarespace. The backend is a dream! Incredibly organized which makes it easy to find areas that can help you add more pages, change the way something looks, or see how many visitors your site is getting on a daily basis.

And guess what? It’s super easy to build your pages because Squarespace uses a simple and intuitive drag and drop interface. Even better, you get to see all the changes take place as you’re making them.

Squarespace has a great selection of gorgeous templates to choose from that you don’t have to pay for! It may not be the hundreds of templates that good ole Wordpress has but let me tell you, having that many templates is not always a good thing. For one, it’s easy to get overwhelmed in trying to decide which template to even use and not all of them function that great, either.

With Squarespace, all the templates are already mobile responsive (yay!) which saves you a ton of work. You can also switch templates at any time. Plus, all the templates can be edited to match your brand. And if you’re feeling adventurous, you can delve further into customizing your website by using CSS and coding.

For a DIYer, this is one of my favorite Squarespace features. I come from a Wordpress background and I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gotten a call from a client who tried to change one line of code and inadvertently killed their website.

With Squarespace, I don’t have to worry about that because there is no need for my clients to learn code to customize their site. As I said earlier, it doesn’t mean that you can’t do that...but there is definitely no need to do it.

Another awesome Squarespace feature is that I, and my clients, don’t have to ever worry about fixing bugs or apply updates to our websites. Squarespace does it automatically in the background. I could kiss them right now for this! But I’ll refrain….

Lastly, because Squarespace is a closed source platform, it’s more secure than similar open source platforms, such as Wordpress. There are always raging debates about this and doomsday what-if scenarios but let’s be honest...the odds of what many say is a negative about a closed source platform rarely come true. Simply put, with an open source platform, hackers can distribute malicious code to exploit vulnerabilities within a theme or plugin because anyone can contribute to Wordpress tech (lots of 3rd party pieces). With Squarespace, you don’t have that risk.

Squarespace comes with built-in social media integration. Whether you want to connect your social media profiles, have an Instagram feed on your website, or  add sharing buttons so people can share your content to social media, Squarespace has got your back.a

One of the benefits of connecting your Facebook page with your Squarespace website is that you get the benefits of installing a Facebook pixel so you can dip your toes into the Facebook Ads water later on. You can also display your Squarespace gallery or portfolio as a tab on your Facebook page, and more.

Similarly, by connecting Pinterest, your domain will be instantly verified on Pinterest so you can switch to a Pinterest Business profile and enjoy analytics and rich pins.

Because Squarespace doesn’t already rock enough, let’s add that you can also have clients book appointments right on your website thanks to the Acuity integration. Another bonus? Acuity offers its Emerging Entrepreneur level for free to anyone with a paid Squarespace account. (yep, that’s an affiliate link).

You can also create a client area or a resource library using a password protected page, just like I did and I use it as an opt-in freebie to build my email list (how do you get it? Sign up for my newsletter here!).

Let’s not forget, you can easily create client forms and questionnaires on your site and have them emailed to you or stored in a spreadsheet.

As a creative entrepreneur, you may be thinking about selling digital or physical products on your site. With Squarespace, you can do that and accept payments through Paypal, Apple Pay, and Stripe.

Building an email list is a great way to gain clients, get your brand and business out there, and build relationships. Mailchimp is an awesome email marketing platform (that’s another affiliate link) and Squarespace integrates with it. How much more easy can this get?

For all you video-loving babes out there, good news! You’re not limited to just text content. You can share videos from YouTube, Vimeo, or Wistea with a video block and adding the video’s URL. You can also start a podcast, upload your episodes to Squarespace, and easily submit them to iTunes.

09| 24/7 SUPPORT

One of the things I love the most about Squarespace is their customer support. I’ve dealt with other platforms where I couldn’t get an actual person to help me to save my life. Talk about frustrating! The Squarespace support team is available via email 24/7 and if you really need to talk to someone, you can start a live chat with one of their support agents. Squarespace also has a great knowledge base of helpful tutorials, articles, and videos that you can reference at any time if you need help.

Last but certainly not least, Squarespace is exceptionally SEO-friendly regardless of what you may have heard otherwise. Don’t believe me? The truth is Squarespace actually does offer almost everything you need to do well in search engine results. Need tips on how to maximize your Squarespace SEO? An awesome feature is that Squarespace automatically generates a sitemap for you. No more trying to do it yourself. Additionally, you can add the proper alt and title tags to your images and enter a website description and page descriptions for every single page on your website.

Squarespace is versatile, modern, updated with the latest features, and they’ve got your security covered. It takes some of the stress away when DIYing your own website and even for us Squarespace web designers!

If you want a site that is easy to update, easy to add content, easy to manage, easy to customize (are you sensing a theme, yet?) and you want a website that’s your best business partner, then Squarespace makes perfect sense for any creative entrepreneur.

And a very cool feature that’s even better than DIYing your website...hiring a website designer like moi to help you out. I couldn’t resist throwing a little shameless plug there.
